TACTUS IS THE LATIN WORD FOR TOUCH - SPECIFICALLY THE SENSE OF TOUCH. IN MUSICAL TERMS IT REFERS TO THE ANCIENT PRACTICE OF USING THE HEARTBEAT AS THE RHYTHMIC PULSE OF PERFORMED PIECES.

tactus is my first original project. i chose the twelve songs in tactus within a number of ideas, sketches and finished pieces that i wrote between 1999 and 2009. this collection can be read as a series of snapshots freezing time into small frames, by isolating and combining gestures, encounters, flourishes of chance, fast turns and long stasis, restlessness and release.. if you will, the paradigm of any decade in the life of any someone. the fluid and perennial track of time, which in music can be translated into rhythmic pulse, in life can find a figured equivalent in the heartbeat. the verses that follow, by the italian poet patrizia valduga, are as i interpreted them a very effective and lightning summary of this concept. it is not easy to speak of the heart, in non-medical terms, without metaphorically falling into a jar of sugar. the heart implicitly contained in the title tactus, combines in a single concept the heartbeat and the musical pace and enhances the parallel between emotions and the gestures that follow. i hope this work succeeded in its aim and that, starting from the heart, to the heart it will eventually arrive. adriana

this work owes much to the BEAUTIFULLY talented musicians and dear friends with whom I worked in italy before moving to the uk in 2009. it is thanks to sara piran, roberto franceschini and goran moskovski, to the strong and generous push their presence and their musical sensibilities have given me while working together, that this project has finally escaped the drawer.

tactus è il mio primo progetto originale. ho scelto i dodici brani di tactus fra tante idee, abbozzi, pezzi finiti che ho scritto in circa un decennio, fra il 1999 e il 2009. il loro insieme può essere letto come una sorta di diario per immagini, una serie di istantanee che gelano il tempo e lo accomodano in piccoli riquadri, di volta in volta isolando ed accostando gesti, incontri, svolazzi del caso, svolte repentine e lunghe stasi, irrequietezza e distensione.. se si vuole, il paradigma di un decennio qualsiasi nella vita di un qualsiasi qualcuno. il tutto steso su una griglia, il binario perenne e fluido del tempo, che in musica si traduce in pulsazione ritmica e che nella vita può trovare un corrispettivo figurato nel battito cardiaco. i versi che seguono, della poetessa italiana patrizia valduga, costituiscono per me un'efficacissima e fulminea sintesi di questo concetto. non è facile parlare del cuore, in termini non medici, senza cadere metaforicamente in un vaso di zucchero. il cuore implicitamente contenuto nel titolo tactus, fonde in un unico concetto la pulsazione cardiaca e quella ritmica musicale ed implicitamente esalta il parallelo fra le emozioni e i gesti che ne conseguono. spero che questo lavoro sia riuscito nell'intento e che, partendo dal cuore, al cuore alla fine arrivi. adriana

questo lavoro deve moltissimo ai meravigliosi musicisti e cari amici con cui ho avuto la fortuna di collaborare in italia, prima di trasferirmi nel regno unito nel 2009. è grazie a sara piran, roberto franceschini e goran moskovski e al lavoro fatto assieme, alla spinta forte e generosa che la loro presenza e la loro sensibilità musicale mi hanno dato, che questo album è finalmente uscito dal cassetto.
